What is it?
The HCID Open Day is a mini conference run by the at City St George’s, University of London. Each year we invite in guest speakers from industry and academia to talk about UX / HCI / Interaction Design and related fields.
This year our theme is ‘Paradigm Shift’. With the aim to explore how designers should be reacting to the major changes currently impacting society, from technology to politics to climate. Discussions will cover dealing with the shift, how we respond to it, and how we critique, appropriate it and start being proactive. The day will be split into 3 strands roughly focusing on ‘Opportunities’, ‘Challenges’ and ‘The New Normal’.
We have chosen this theme as we believe that as designers, we all have an important role to play in navigating the rapid changes facing society. Through the day we hope to offer a forum to discuss how best to navigate the challenges ahead.
This year’s HCID Conference will be on Tuesday 24 June 2025 – full details of speakers and talks will be added to the as we approach the date.
Why should I go?
We had around 200+ people through the doors in past years! The audience consists of professionals, academics, and students from a variety of fields including UX, digital, accessibility, design and creativity.
It is a great opportunity to learn, network and meet people who may be recruiting or potential recruits. Previous keynotes have been from eBay, Google, Virgin, Microsoft, and Facebook. You can see our for a feel of the day.
